Salut!
Wine Name Domaine Bablut, Cremant de Loire Brut, Loire Valley, France NV (75cl)
Style Sparkling
Grape Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Grolleau Noir & Cabernet Franc
Description
Organic, sparkly white wine from the Loire. Crisp, fresh and brioche-y all at the same time.
Pairing & Serving
Very cold, as an aperitif - it’s a bottle that’s made to be shared.
Wine Name Anne Arbeau, ‘Arbelle’, Languedoc, France 2018 (75cl)
Style White
Grape Chardonnay & Vermentino
Description
Rich white from a long-established family winery in Fronton. There’s a little bit of skin contact for texture, whilst remaining very classic. We think it’s a perfect Christmas white.
Pairing & Serving
We think this bottle might be the remedy after a long meal of big reds. Maybe with a soft cheese and some rye crackers.
Wine Name Bel Colle, Barbera d’Alba Ape Reale, Italy 2018 (75cl)
Style Red
Grape Barbera
Description
A dry, medium-bodied red with bright acidity. A counterpoint to the big jammy Christmas reds of yore.
Pairing & Serving
Great with white or red meat, an easy one for Christmas day itself. Don’t serve it chilled, but be mindful that it’s not too close to room temperature.
Wine Name Domaine de Ferrand, Cotes-du-Rhone Vieilles Vignes, France 2019 (75cl)
Style Red
Grape 90% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Clairette
Description
A classic Cotes-du-Rhone: Herbal nose, red fruits, black olives, liquorice, cinnamon, and black pepper on the palate. It’s Christmas in a bottle.
Pairing & Serving
Every single point during the Christmas period is an appropriate time to open this bottle.
Wine Name Château Tirecul la Gravière, Les Pins, Monbazillac, France 2020 (50cl)
Style Sweet
Grape Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon & Muscadelle
Description
Beautiful fresh dessert wine with really balanced acidity. Not too ‘sticky’ - a wine for people who ‘don’t like’ pudding wine (because they do, they just don’t know it yet).
Pairing & Serving
Ice cold, in a small glass, with a marzipan-y Christmas treat.
Serving
Wine Name Emilio Hidalgo, Pedro Ximenez, Jerez, Spain NV (50cl)
Style Fortified & Sweet
Grape Pedro Ximenez
Description
This sweet sticky PX is pure raisins and treacle.
Pairing & Serving
Perfect, effortless Christmas-party pudding idea: Vanilla ice cream with a generous slug of this poured over the top. Perfect.
The Quality Chop House Shop
The Quality Chop House first opened its doors in 1869 and - to this day - continues to serve its community with fine British fare.
Our shop (located next door) opened in 2013. We deal in comfort food; from crispy confit potatoes to decadent beef mince and crust-crumbling pork pies, as well as a broad range of the freshest seasonal vegetables, artisan cheeses and store cupboard essentials.
We are open 7 days a week for all of the above as well as bread from our kitchens and meat from our whole-carcass butchery. You can also choose from over 100 wines curated by our sister wine bar Quality Wines.
