"Red Vinho Verde?! But...." is something we hear fairly often. Vinho Verde is actually an agglomeration of nine subregions of the most northwesterly reaches of Portugal, and not a varietal. The region, whilst famous for the fizzy whites, actually holds host to all manner of hues - including this lovely red made from the local Vinhao varietal. Its fragrant with ripe brambly tones, has real structure and chew with good tannins, without any sense of austerity to it. A dynamic fruit forward red!
