6 sweets or 6 sherries might be too much we thought, but 3 of each could be just the ticket. Things to start and finish your evening's drinking.

El Maestro Sierra, Fino, Jerez NV

One of three bottlings from our most dependable source in Jerez. This is the perfect way to kick off a crisp Spring evening.

Grape: Palamino Fino

El Maestro Sierra, Amontillado, Jerez NV

Nutty and golden in colour you may associate this more with Winter or even Christmas but this is a lighter-touch Amontillado than you might expect. Very rewarding for sherry-heads

Grape: Palamino Fino

El Maestro Sierra, Pedro Ximénez, Jerez NV

This is cerebral rather than simply-sweet PX from El Maestro Sierra, one of our favourites in Jerez.

Grape: Pedro Ximénez

Fattoria di Sammontana, Vinsanto, Tuscany 2010

Unfortified, concentrated and earthy vin santo. This is the real stuff. As far from a duty-free bottle with a fancy bow as you can get.

Grape: Trebbiano, Malvasia & San Colombano

Lyrarakis, "Malvasia of Crete", Crete 2006

Go all Shakespearean and drown yourself in Malmsey (Malvasia) to get yourself through this. You will be hard-pressed to find a better one.

Grape: Malvasia

Staffelter Hof, Kröv Steffensberg Riesling Auslese, Mosel 2008

If the residual sugar and long-lastability of an auslese doesn't do the job for domestic isolation, we don't know what will. One to save for dessert (if it lasts that long).

Grape: Riesling
